Synopsis

Course Title: Communicative English Grammar

Course Code: UB00102

Credit Hours: 2

Contact Hours: 3

Synopsis:

This module aims to help students to understand and practice English grammar within communicative contexts. Grammatical structures will be taught in natural context, such as engaging in conversations and reading articles. To practice both form and meaning of these grammatical structures, students will be provided with numerous and varied controlled exercises including identifying common grammatical errors and correcting them. In addition, students will be encouraged to use the structures freely and creatively in motivating open-ended communicative activities. In order to incorporate the four major language skills tested in MUET (Malaysian University English Testing), an integrated skills approach is emphasized through activities and assessments that require students to listen, speak, read and write effectively as well as to be able to respond appropriately to audio input.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • communicate with one another using grammatical English
  • apply the acquired language skills in their respective courses

Assessment Components:

  1. Test 1 (Formative) - 20%
  2. Test 2 (Formative) - 30%
  3. Assignment (Summative) - 20%
  4. Presentation (Summative) - 30%
